Performing arts may include dance, music, opera, theatre and musical theatre, magic, illusion, mime, spoken word, puppetry, circus arts, and performance art.
I am listing the categories of performing art NFTs that I have been able to identify. Sometimes more than one discipline come together in the same NFT. Because of this I divided the NFTs/projects I could find into categories:
TheatreNFTs
- ThirdAct. A platform that sells NFTs that aim at finalising theatre fans. It is not about owning Theatre performance NFTs, but rather elements connected to it, such as Digital toys and tickets.
- AMC theatres. Big Theatre Chain AMC exploring ways to join the NFTs world.
- The Zombie Life. A cute but not-convincing effort to sell bits of theatre Performance as NFTs.

- NiftyComedians. A very promising platforms that allows Standup Comedy fans to purchase NFTs comedy clips and jokes.

- Broken Heart. An interesting article about the collection that the Italian Singer and Live performer Achille Lauro generated during one of his concerts.

- NFTconcerts. Interesting projects that claims to be the first NFT platform designed exclusively for live music. Curious to see how it will evolve.

Dancing&MusicNFTs
Dance NFTs have the creative challenge of music. In order to become an NFT the uploaded .Mpeg4 or .MOV file has to be copyright free. Since very often dancers dance on copyrighted musics, dance NFTs require dancers to come up with creative solutions. They can collaborate with other artists, such as beatboxers, music producers, musicians or make their own creative soundtrack (like I do myself with my voice overs).

NFTs arts gives incentives to explore further with creativity and multidisciplinarity. I am looking for more examples/categories of performing arts combined with digital art. For now, I listed my own. Let me know if you know more examples!

The platform those are mentioned above were available in the year 2022, but now all of them get disappeared but these are the ways performance artists can make money using the performance art as an NFT.
The performances can be tokenized into NFTs in various ways, one of the use cases mentioned here. Use case: The NFTs represent signature moves and mannerisms of various performers which, in turn, can then be sold to fans via online stores and live shows and used as emotes within participating video games and apps. Since the fans already have their idols best moments with them, they will be more excited to engage with them in the real time.
Ephemeral art, such as performance or live art, requires documentation to prove its existence beyond the moment of its happening. The answer is often photographic, yet there are issues for the legacy of the work with this type of response. The event is date and time stamped by the photographic document, which stands as proof of it taking place, which locates it to a specific time and to a certain place. A two-dimensional photographic document of the ephemeral event or happening resigns the embodied experience to a “flat death” in this way. The document proves its existence yet denies the opportunity of its experience. The actual experience of the ephemeral artwork is, therefore, lost to the viewer of its document. They see only its record of happening created through a particular view and vantage point. Roland Barthes, in Camera Lucida, suggests that “flat death” is the fate of the three-dimensional experience represented photographically, so from this perspective, this result is not unexpected. The depth and varied nuances of the event go largely unrepresented in the photograph, and, in Barthes’ terms, a flat and dead image is the result.
The hologram, however, with its spatial and three-dimensional realization of an image, offers a potential solution to this problem. In providing a view of the dexterity and depth of an inert object or human body, it creates a more comprehensive photographic document that exists as a potential act of legacy. Although this cannot fully account or attest to the experience (as that can only occur through active and present observation), the three-dimensional representation within the hologram allows for greater understanding of “being there” at the time of its happening. The hologram, therefore, is potentially more suitable to document the active and first-hand art experience. Yet, appropriateness and suitability are as open for debate with the hologram as with its two-dimensional counterpart, concerning how it successfully operates in this context.
I think making the holograms as NFT can preserve the legacy of the performance art work.
Performance artists should make sure that they are not copying other performance artists work, every performance art should be unique. If they would make sure and make sure it happens, then probably there would be a great community created.
As I mentioned earlier, authenticity and ownership would come into play if all the performer artists make sure what art they are performing, they are creating on their own and creating it in an ethical way. If they start performing it in an unethical way, then whole thing will be a mess.
Yes, NFTs can be used for fundraising or crowdfunding purposes. Artists, creators, and organizations can tokenize assets or create limited editions of digital content to raise funds for specific projects or causes. The potential challenges could be the value of NFTs can be volatile, and there is a potential for scams, counterfeit NFTs, or market manipulation.
I believe NFTs in the performance art could be a transformative force behind every performance artist to make them do what they are doing without worrying about copyright issues as well as financial issues. I hope these days are coming sooner or later but it will definitely come in the future.
